I wanted my employer
to understand why I chose to work during the day and get some hours
overtime during the evening and over the weekends, therefore I
decided to write to her a paragraph
on my dream
and place it on her table for her to read the following day when she
comes to the office. This is how it read, “being the first born in
our family, I have the obligation to take care of my three siblings.
The load worsened when I lost my uncle who used to help me cope with
the situation, since am not in a position to raise enough with the
little I get during the day, kindly prolong the hours that am allowed
to work for you so as to help me make ends meet.” Kind enough the
following day she summoned me to her office two hours after eight in
the morning.
My heart pounded hard because I did not know what was in
store for me. I took a deep breath and knocked at her office door,
“come in” she answered, I went inside and stood at some distance
when without a greeting she handed me a letter. I did not know what
to do a first when she told me to read the letter at my own time and
see her in case I needed any clarification.
I left her office with
bouncing tears in my eyes, thinking that I had lost my job. I opened
the letter immediately I sat at my desk, to my biggest surprise, it
was a promotion letter. I was going to head the ICT team as their
manager. That was the best news in a long time and I was supposed to
