Reading # 59: What dirty dog We Do? Becoming Part of the Solution
These paradoxes seem to be between society and individuals. Johnson gives an example
that social systems atomic number 18 trees and we are the leaves. No individual leaf on the tree divisions. He
goes on to say that as individuals we don’t matter as much. But as a throng workings together, we
push deflection form a critical mass that can be significant in the long run. He alike states that we nonplus to be
willing to travel without knowing where we’re going. adept reason he states is we fear how much
role we have. Even in the most insignificant everyday situations. One example he gives is a
group of friends laughing at a racist, sexist, or homophobic joke and making the conclusion
whether or non to go along with it. If someone decides non to, we consciously know how
uncomfortable this can make the group feel. We may feel silent. We feel silent because we do
not dare confront them.

I’m not incontestable what Johnson’s advice would be to someone who wanted to make a
difference. Maybe question authority? How about speak your straits all the time? What I get from
this reading is that you would not live to see real change take place. It would leap as small
moments. What you start would continue with someone else after you have passed on. There is
no room for self-fulfillment. Change would have to be small but significant. You would have to
put aside arrogance and vanity. If you want to get a full essay, place it on our website: Orderessay
