From the 1840s to the 1880s, large numbers of families do the dangerous journey from eastern America to uncharted stain westside of the Mississippi River. They believed they had a God given pay to make a new life for themselves in enclosure land. While the men of the family usually made the decision to extinguish the family and embark on this perilous journey, the women reluctantly accompanied them. These families endured umteen hardships, challenges, losses and adventures along the way. These included the decision to run into, tackling every sidereal day chores, dealing with grief and death, the need for companionship and encounters with Indians.
There were to a greater extent reasons for the move to Oregon country. One of the reasons for the move was to escape the origination of slavery. Abolitionists found slavery to be so repugnant that they wished to move to territory where it was not an issue. Slavery also put the distinctive small farmer at an economic disadvantage.
